DINK time...

The Mr and I have been taking advantage of our DINK time before the little one arrives so we have been  making an effort to try out some places around town that we haven't been before:

1. Fat Cow -  I took the Mr here for a surprise birthday dinner the other week.  Fat Cow is a Japanese inspired steak house located in the Camden Medical Centre of all places.  Our expectations were high as we had heard lots of good reviews and it is owned by the same folks who run Kinki and the various Marmalade Pantry outlets. They didn't disappoint.  Fat Cow serves a range of steaks mainly Wagyu or half Wagyu from Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the US.   For those like me who are not steak lovers, there is also a range of other mains including shabu shabu.

I had the shabu shabu with their A3 grade Japanese beef and I must say it was the most incredible (and most expensive) shabu shabu I have ever eaten.  Soft and delicious and full of flavour.  I also recommend their Zucchini Blossom Tempura which is the most beautifully lightly battered blossom contrasted with a sweet scallop and crab filling.    We were seated at the communal bar area around the main grill and the atmosphere was great (despite the annoying food bloggers sitting near us who were criticising everything including the gin cocktail that tasted too much like gin!?!).   I recommend it for a visit if you are looking for a different type of steak experience.  Also thanks to our lovely friends at Survival Chic for the discount (I highly recommend becoming a member if you aren't already).

2. Pact - located in Orchard Central, this is a new venture between Kilo (Restaurant and Bar), K.I.N (clothing and lifestyle) and Pact + Lim (hairdressers) which opened up a couple of weeks ago.  Serving up Japanese/Vietnamese fusion food in a cool industrial environment, their menu is simple but tasty.  Whilst I was disappointed with their Beef Pho, their take on Banh Mi, their salads and their rice bowls are the perfect simple meal.  Being just around the corner from our place, we will definitely be back (and have already been there twice in the last week or so!).

3. &Made - is a sandwich and burger joint which opened recently by 3 michelin star chef, Bruno Menard and the Delicae group (the group our friend likes to call the Duxton Hill mafia as they are behind L'Entrecote, Sabio, le Petite Cancale etc).  &Made is kind of like an upmarket diner with cozy cool interiors serving up burgers and galette toasted sandwiches.   Whilst not the cheapest place to get a burger, I recommend checking it out if you are looking for a tasty casual meal.  Their fries served with homemade bbq sauce and ketchup are also damn good!

4. Broadcast HQ - Brought to you by Harry Grover (behind 40 Hands) and his brother, this restaurant / music store / bar is a great little addition to Little India.  With a motto like "Meat, Mead, Music", I think you know what you are in for.  Lots of exposed brick, funky tunes and they serve up lots of meat (think ribs, wings etc).  Their Mac & Cheese was also tasty.  A great place for a chilled but buzzy night out.

Carla Zampatti turns 50

This year marks 50 years of the iconic Carla Zampatti fashion label.   After being denied a pay rise from her  £13 a week job designing blouses for a wholesale fashion house in 1964, she launched her own label a year later and the rest is fashion history.  The fashion house  celebrated yesterday with the 2015 Spring/Summer showcase in Sydney at the Opera House.   A beautiful, elegant and gorgeous collection.   Well played Ms Zampatti.

West Elm Market, Brooklyn

I want one of these to open up here in Singapore where there is a serious lack of cool homewares stores! This looks like my kind of shop. The West Elm Market focuses on selling goods from 4 key product areas - kitchen, garden, care & repair and personal care.   Products are available online here images via West Elm

Music memories

I have the office to myself this afternoon so I can ditch the headphones and am turning up the music. I used to be really up to date with music, read music blogs and keep up with new songs, artists, go to gigs.. but this has sort of faded out in the last few years. These days I seem to rely a lot on Spotify and their playlists and recommendations which is great for busy people! But this afternoon I am feeling a bit nostalgic so reminiscing and playing some songs played at our wedding back in 2010 which is bringing back some beautiful memories.   Walking down the aisle:  First dance:
